Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired 2003-born defenceman Marc Lajoie from the Tri-City Americans in exchange for a 2025 second-round draft pick (via Tri-City) and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick.

Lajoie, 19, just completed his fourth season in the WHL, all spent with the Americans. This past season, he set a new career high in assists after putting up 37 points (5G, 32A) in 65 games to go along with 82 penalty minutes and a -1 plus/minus rating.

In 215 career WHL regular season games, the St. Albert, AB product has registered 93 points (26G, 67A), 234 penalty minutes and a -94 plus/minus rating, while also chipping in one goal in nine career post-season games.

"The Oil Kings organization is excited to add Marc to our Club," said Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kirt Hill. "Marc is a veteran of the WHL having played over 200 games in his career and last season as the Captain of his team. It was very important for us to add a strong leader to our defensive core to help mentor the young group of players we will have on defence next season.

"Marc brings not only leadership, but a strong defensive game with the ability to help offensively as well. We look forward to integrating him into our group in the coming days."

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound rearguard was originally drafted by the Americans in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft.

Lajoie played his minor hockey with the U15 St. Albert Sabres before moving on to play with the U15 and U18 Northern Alberta X-Treme.

He is the son of Oil Kings Assistant Coach and Manager of Player Development Serge Lajoie.
