Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings dropped a 4-1 decision to the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Place.
A back-and-forth first period that saw plenty of chances for both teams had just one goal and it gave the Blades a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
On an early Saskatoon power play, Tyler Parr was able to tip in a Charlie Wright point shot for the game's icebreaker.
In the second period, the Blades power play remained lethal as Fraser Minten and Rowan Calvert each tallied a power play marker less than five minutes into the middle stanza to extend the visitors lead to three.
The Oil Kings weren't without their chances in the second period as both Marshall Finnie and Gavin Hodnett were robbed from point blank range by Saskatoon goaltender Evan Gardner, while Ty Nash rang a shot off the crossbar midway through the frame.
In the third period, the Blades extended to a 4-0 lead on another power play goal, this time from Brandon Lisowsky 9:10 into the final period.
The Oil Kings were able to break the shutout bid for the Blades with a power play goal of their own as Gracyn Sawchyn pounded home a slap shot from the high slot with 9:12 left in the game but that would be as close as they would get.
Kolby Hay finished the night making 27 saves, while Gardner stopped 18 shots. Edmonton went 1-for-4 on the power play, Saskatoon was 4-for-6.
Next up, the Oil Kings head to Red Deer on Friday night to battle the Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium at 7:00 P.M. You can catch all the action on the Oil Kings Radio Network, iHeartRadio Canada.
