Hitmen Defeat Raiders in Thrilling 5-3 Overtime Win

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen closed out the weekend hosting the Prince Albert Raiders at the Scotiabank Saddledome. A thrilling overtime win for Calgary now ties them with Prince Albert for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Calgary was the first to strike with Ben Kindel netting his seventh of the season. Sloan Stanick of Prince Albert was able to get one past netminder Alex Garrett on the powerplay under five minutes later to tie the game. The second period saw Ethan Moore's point streak extended to 13 games with his 12th of year to regain the lead for Calgary. Prince Albert had an answer courtesy of Matej Kubiesa tying the game at two.

It would be back and forth once again with David Adaszynski netting one for Calgary, for it only to be answered by Harrison Lodewyk to tie the game for the third time. With Calgary in the box for a double minor high-sticking penalty, Prince Albert took their first lead of the game with Aiden Oiring making it 4-3 heading into the final frame. Just over the halfway mark of the third, Keets Fawcett tied the game with a helper from Fraser Leonard, ultimately forcing overtime. Maxim Muranov was the one to pull out the heroics, scoring just 30 seconds into extra minutes, winning it 5-4 for Calgary.

Maxim Muranov (1g, 2a) earned first star, while David Adaszynski (1g, 2a) earned second star. Calgary now sits with a record of 18-18-1-1 and is tied with Prince Albert for the eighth and final playoff spot with three games in hand.

Calgary is back in action next weekend for a pair of home games hosting Brandon on Friday, Jan. 26 in a 7:00 p.m. start at the Scotiabank Saddledome before welcoming Regina on Sunday, Jan. 28 in a 2:00 p.m. start. The date with the Pats is not only another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential but also RE/MAX presents Nickelodeon Day in support of the Children's Miracle Network. Calgary will wear special Paw Patrol theme jerseys that will be auctioned off for charity. There will also be free giveaways of 1,000 co-branded Hitmen/Paw Patrol posters and 1,000 RE/MAX mini sticks to the first fans in the building when doors open at 1:00 p.m. in addition to puppies on the concourse.
