Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings finished their seven-game road trip with a 5-1 loss Sunday afternoon to the Calgary Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome
A back-and-forth first period saw the Oil Kings and Hitmen hit the first intermission tied at one after combining for 25 shots on goal.
Keets Fawcett got the Hitmen on the board first less than 40 seconds in as he put a shot past Hudson Perry from the top of the left circle on a three-on-two rush into the Edmonton zone.
Late in the period, the Hitmen had a glorious chance to go up 2-0 on a power play after Perry made a save on a point shot through a ton of traffic, the rebound dropped down at the feet of Sean Tschigerl for what looked like a sure tap-in only to be foiled by an unbelievable sprawling left pad save by Perry.
Shortly after that penalty kill, Adam Jecho lugged the puck the length of the ice, swung in behind the Calgary net and had his wraparound bid turn into a perfect backdoor pass to Gracyn Sawchyn who put home his 10th goal of the season to tie the game.
In the second period, the Hitmen would score twice to take a 3-1 lead to the third period.
Maxim Muranov scored just over five minutes into the period after he was able to power his way to the front of the Edmonton net and slip in a backhand shot.
At the 12:18 mark, Carson Wetsch increased the Hitmen lead after picking the top corner with a perfectly placed shot from the high-slot.
Edmonton had three power play chances in the period but could not solve Ethan Buenaventura.
In the third period, the Hitmen added goals from Wyatt Pisarczyk and the second of the game from Fawcett to pull away with a 5-1 win.
The Oil Kings fired 22 shots on the Calgary net in the third period but again were thwarted by Buenaventura.
Perry finished the night making 41 saves for the Oil Kings, while Buenaventura finished up with 50 stops. Edmonton went 0-for-5 on the power play, Calgary was 0-for-4.
