Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen returned to the Scotiabank Saddledome for the first time since December 17th, welcoming the Edmonton Oil Kings for their fourth meeting of the season. A 50 save performance from Calgary netminder Ethan Buenaventura and a perfect penalty kill was the recipe for success in this afternoon's 5-1 win over the visitors.
Keets Fawcett opened up the scoring in the first 40 seconds with a helper from Tyson Greenway, who returned to the lineup for the first time in 10 games after battling injury. Edmonton would get on the scoresheet with under two minutes left in the first to tie the game heading into the second. The second period saw Calgary in the box on three separate occasions but would kill all three to keep Edmonton to one goal. Calgary would go on to extend their lead to two, courtesy of goals from Maxim Muranov and Carson Wetsch. A breakaway save from Ethan Buenaventura would keep the Calgary lead intact entering the final frame.
Another quick goal at the start of the third from Wyatt Pisarczyk made it 4-1, for the rookie blueliner's second of the season. This would remain the lone goal of the period until Keets Fawcett tipped one home off a shot from Tyson Greenway in the final six minutes making the final score 5-1.
Ethan Moore and Maxim Muranov both extended their point streak to nine and seven games respectively. Buenaventura earned first star with his incredible 50 save night. Calgary now has points in all four games to start the New Year and sit in ninth position in the Eastern Conference one point back of Prince Albert for the final playoff spot.
Calgary now has four days off before returning to action on Friday against the Spokane Chiefs. Game time is 12:00 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary will then wrap the weekend in another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential on Jan. 14 when the Tri-City Americans make a stop in Calgary for a 2:00 p.m. start.
