Oil Kings Acquire Musil from Vancouver

Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings General Manager Bob Green announced today the team has traded defenceman Mason Geertsen and their 2013 first-round WHL Bantam Draft pick to the Vancouver Giants in exchange for defenceman David Musil.

Musil was selected in the second round (31st overall) by the Edmonton Oilers at the 2011 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 203-pound rearguard has played 206 regular season games in parts of four seasons with the Giants, tallying 21 goals and 92 total points with a +43 rating. Musil has also chipped in with five points in 20 career WHL playoff games.

The 19-year-old dual citizen of Canada and the Czech Republic competed for the Czech Republic at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton and Calgary last year, posting a +5 rating in five games as his team placed fifth.

Geertsen has played 52 regular season games with the Oil Kings in parts of three seasons, posting seven assists and a +2 rating during that time. The blueliner was selected in the first round (18th overall) at the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.

"It's tough to give up a player of Mason's calibre, and we thank him for his contributions to the team," Green said of the trade. "In David we get a big guy with a good stick who defends really well and plays in all situations. He adds a lot of maturity and experience to our locker room and will play a lot of key minutes for us."
