Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, in conjunction with Manitoba Public Insurance, CAA Manitoba, Canexus Chemicals and Pauls' Hauling have announced plans to honour western Manitoba School Patrols during the Saturday, November 3rd game against the visiting Calgary Hitmen.
Over five hundred school patrols from Brandon and surrounding area are expected to attend the game, compliments of the Wheat Kings, the Brandon Police Service as well as the four participating sponsors.
In addition to well over four hundred patrols from the Brandon School Division, a number of tickets have been distributed to patrols across western Manitoba.
As well, the hockey club has announced a partnership with Manitoba Public Insurance and the Brandon Sun, aimed at recognizing children who are part of their school's "Safety Patrol Unit". Once a month, patrol members from one Brandon school will enjoy lunch with members of the Wheat Kings, including 2012-13 Honorary School Patrol Captain Ryan Pulock, compliments of Subway Restaurants of Brandon.
The first School Patrol Luncheon of the season is scheduled for Thursday, November 1st at Green Acres School in Brandon.
Joining Pulock at Thursday's Luncheon will be 18-year old blueliner Eric Roy. Both are expected to be chosen at next June's National Hockey League Entry Draft.
While Pulock is currently tied with Alessio Bertaggia for the team scoring lead with eighteen points each, Roy has three goals and 11 points in sixteen games. He also notched the Overtime Shootout winner in Brandon's victory over the Broncos in Swift Current last month.
This School Patrol Luncheon program is designed to recognize those children who volunteer their time in rain, snow or shine to help keep the streets safe for other children. It is also designed in a manner to attract new patrollers through the recognition and benefits of being part of their school's Safety Patrol unit. Part of the program will also provide the hockey team, Manitoba Public Insurance and the Brandon Police Service a forum to relate important safety messages to Brandon and area students.
The School Safety Patrol Program has become a successful and respected safety program throughout western Manitoba. Through this program, combined with CIBC "Read to Succeed" and the hockey club's popular Minor Hockey Caravan, the Wheat Kings will again have a very strong presence and influence in local elementary schools.
In on Wheat Kings' news, the hockey club returned to the ice Wednesday afternoon after enjoying two well deserved days off. Fresh off a 7-game, thirteen day western road swing, Brandon will play two home games this weekend - Friday vs Moose Jaw and Saturday against the Hitmen.
Tickets to both weekend games are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
