Regina Pats News Release

First Period

The Pats struck early in the first period with a 5-on-3 powerplay goal from Lane Scheidl assisted by Colby Williams and Morgan Klimchuk at 18:15. There was concern when Pats' defenseman Colby Williams took an awkward hit midway through the first and was forced to leave the game. Soon after the hit, the ice quickly tilted in favor of the Blades as they relentlessly poured shots on Pats' goaltender Matt Hewitt. Hewitt weathered the Blades' storm and stopped all 16 shots he faced, keeping the Blue and White in front 1-0 going into the second period.

Second Period

Early in the second with both teams on a 4-on-4, Blades' forward Josh Nicholls got Saskatoon on the board with a slick goal at 16:21. The Blue and White continued to have problems in their own end and shortly after the media break, Nicholls struck again for the Blades at 6:06 with his second goal of the game. The period concluded with the Blades ahead 2-1.

Third Period

Halfway through the frame, both teams took offsetting minors resulting in two minutes of 4-on-4 play. The Blue and White laid pressure on the Blades and were rewarded with their efforts when Lane Scheidl scored his second goal of the game from Morgan Klimchuk and Colton Jobke at 7:50, evening the score 2-2. Shane McColgan responded for the Blades with a powerplay go-ahead tally 53 seconds after the Pats tying goal. Down 3-2, the Pats pulled Hewitt in hopes that an extra attacker could even up the score. The Pats failed to capitalize with their net empty and the horn concluded the 3-2 game in favor of the Blades.
