Offense Struggles, Wings Lose 5-1

The Aberdeen Wings took the ice in Cloquet, Minnesota on Saturday night against the Minnesota Wilderness. The night before, the Wings got a 2-0 shutout victory against the Wilderness. The Wings however would struggle Saturday, losing 5-1.

To get the game started, the Wings jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 2:53 mark from #22 Colin Raver (F-Bartlett, IL) with assist to #18 Austin Swingle (F-St. Cloud, MN). Later in the period, the Wilderness would tie it up at the 15:32 mark with a goal from Brett Heikkila.

At the start of the 2nd period, the Wilderness would get a 2-1 lead with a quick goal from Billy Exell. It wasn't until the 3rd period that the gates opened up for the Wilderness. After a drop of the gloves, the Wilderness would score thanks to Darian Romanko. With a 3-1 lead much of the third period, the Wings struggled to get shots on goal. After a slashing call on Wings' #22 Colin Raver and high sticking from #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI), the Wings would give up two power play goals, credited to Romanko and Janis Jaks.

The Wings were outshot 42-12 in the game, and 80-29 on the weekend. With goaltender #35 Andrew Shortridge (G-Eagle River, AK) faced 80 shots on the weekend.
