IceRays Tender NA3HL Forward Andrew McGlynn
January 26, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Corpus Christi IceRays have signed forward Andrew McGlynn from the St. Louis Jr. Blues of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) to a tender contract for the 2015-16 season. McGlynn is the third tender signed from the NA3HL and the team's sixth tender of the season.
McGlynn, 17, has appeared in four games with the St. Louis Jr. Blues during the 2014-15 season, recording six goals and three assists for nine points with 16 penalty minutes and a -1 rating. Over the last two seasons with the Jr. Blues, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward appeared in 40 games, recording 22 goals and 22 assists for 44 points with 103 penalty minutes and a +17 rating. The St. Louis, Mizz., native is familiar with current IceRays forward Frankie Melton after playing with the former Jr. Blues forward over the past several years.
"It helps knowing that there's someone on the team that you know," said McGlynn. "If you're ever in trouble you can go to him first because he's already on the team. He can help me understand things better once I'm down there and make me feel comfortable right away."
McGlynn appeared in ten games with the Springfield Jr. Blues of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) to start this season, recording one goal and one assist for two points with 18 penalty minutes and a -8 rating. Previously in his career, McGlynn was a defenseman that converted to forward prior to joining the junior ranks and believes that along with his NAHL experiences can help the transition to the NAHL heading into next season.
"I feel like I can see the ice better than most forwards," said McGlynn. "With my defensive background I'm always looking to pass first and be a playmaker in the offensive zone. Hopefully, I'll be able to jump into a nice roll in Corpus Christi. I'm just really excited to get down there and play."
The IceRays head back on the road to begin their first of two three-game sets this season next Thursday, January 29 against the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05 p.m. from Ector County Coliseum. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on KSIX (1230 AM, 96.1 FM, & 103.3 FM) and FASTHockey.com.
