4-3 Shootout Final Settles Series Between Corpus Christi and Wenatchee

In an incredibly close final game, the Corpus Christi Ice Rays and Wenatchee Wild not only went through an overtime period, both teams had to endure a shootout to settle the second game of this weekend. When the dust settled and the crowd calmed, it would be the Ice Rays who would take the 4-3 win. It was certainly a hard fought battle on both sides of the face off circle, and this game proved to be another brick in the foundation that is the heated rivalry between these two competitors. The Wild showed great intensity throughout the entire match and certainly lived up to their fighting spirit. Mitch Demario, August Von Ungern-Sternberg, and Colin Burston were awarded the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Stars of the Game in front of a roaring 3,644 fans.

The opening period only saw one goal, but it would be August Von Ungern-Sternberg who would be the first to break the ice thirteen minutes and thirty nine seconds into the period. August's sole assist came from Chris Jones.

Looking to even the score, Corpus Christi's Ryan Cusin put the Ice Rays' first point on the board with a power play goal at 10:25. Cusin had help from Wes Michaud as well as Tanner Lomsnes. Taking a 2-1 lead, Joe Chitwood gave the Ice Rays their second goal of the night exactly one minute after Cusin. Chitwood received assistance from Anthony Cortese and Brad LeLievre. Ending the period at the 12:51 mark, Mitch Demario tied both teams at two with the help of Mike Coyne.

Going into yet another game tying period, the end of the frame would push these two teams past regulation time and into the overtime period. Lomsnes would go on to open the period with Corpus Christi's third goal of the night. Cortese and Matt Colford assisted on this point, which occurred 14 seconds after the start of the frame. At the 4:37 mark, Colin Burston netted the last goal of regulation for Wenatchee with help from Andre Pison.

Wenatchee ended the night with a 9-7-9-3-0 shot record and 6 penalties. Infractions went to Dan Bailey (Holding), Chris Jones (Fighting (Major)), (Aggressor (Game Misconduct)), Colin Burston (Head Contact), Brendan Harris (Roughing), and Troy Conzo (Slashing).

Zach Quinn was in the net for Wenatchee for 65 total minutes and was able to stop 17 shots on goal out of 20.

Coach Littler stated, "We played well for the most part all weekend. I liked our effort. We need to find a way to finish a team off when we get our chances."

Going into next weekend, January 23-24th, the Wild will be in Fairbanks, Alaska for a two game series against the Ice Dogs. Both games have a 7:30 pm AKST puck drop.
