January 26, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release
As expected, the Wild played their last game against the Ice Dogs with finesse and power. The Big Dipper Ice Arena saw 2,242 fans tonight, but those fans also saw a 3-2 Wild victory at the end of three periods. It was great competition as always, but looking to make a final mark for the season, the Wild fought to go out with a bang. With this win, the Wild are only out of fourth place by six points and are on a quick track to regaining that spot. Mike Coyne and August Von Ungern-Sternberg were rewarded with the 1st and 2nd Stars of the Game.
August Von Ungern-Sternberg struck first for Wenatchee seventeen minutes and forty eight seconds into the first period. Mike Coyne and Dakota Raabe assisted on the lone goal of the first period.
Nineteen minutes and fourteen seconds into the second period, Jesper Ohrvall scored Fairbanks' first point with an unassisted goal on the power play.
Starting off the third period, Ohrvall scored his second of the game at the 1:16 minute mark. Chandler Madry and Jacob Hetz had the assists on the Ice Dogs' last point of the night. Fifty seconds later, Kyle Stephan tied the game for the Wild with help from David Powlowski and Ryan Chiasson. The last goal of the game was scored by Mike Coyne fifteen minutes and fifty five seconds into the final period. Raabe and Ungern-Sternberg picked up the final assists of the night.
Wenatchee ended the night out shooting the home team 33-24 and only four infractions. Penalties went to Mitch Demario (Slashing) (Holding), Ryan Gotelaere (Slashing), and Chris Jones (Roughing).
Michael Bullion was in the net for Wenatchee for the entire 60 minutes and was able to stop 22 shots on goal out of 24.
Coach Littler stated, "Better team effort all the way around. Proud of the effort."
Going into the weekend of January 29th-31st, the Wild will travel to Soldotna, Alaska to take on the Kenai River Brown Bears in a three game series. This series is Wenatchee's last with their old division rivals and their last in Alaska for the season. Thursday will have a 7:00 pm AKST start time but the other two matches will start at 7:30 pm AKST.
