Florence Y'alls News Release
(Florence, KY) - Saturday night was "Sherlock" Night at the Florence Freedom. Fans enjoyed "Murder Mystery Theater" all night at the game.
But the mystery of the 2014 season continues to be why the Freedom (25-33) have struggled so much on offense. They lost 3-1 on Saturday to the Rockford Aviators (27-33) while managing just five hits.
It's the 22nd time the Freedom have scored fewer than three runs in a game this year. They are now 3-19 in such contests.
Rockford got all the runs they needed off Florence starter Chuck Weaver (4-5) in the third inning. Kyle Dhanani singled to start the frame. Ryan Breen drew a walk and Tanner Witt walked to load the bases. A Michael Hur single drove in the first run of the game and one out later a fielder's choice off the bat of Dusty Robinson made it 2-0 in favor of the Aviators. An error by left fielder Zak Blair on a fly ball off the bat of Kenny Bryant allowed Rockford to score another run and take a 3-0 lead.
Florence responded in the bottom of the third with their only run of the game. With one out Preston Overbey doubled for his first professional hit. Unfortunately Rockford outfielders Michael Hur and Jeff Kremer collided on the play as they both dove for the ball. A long delay followed as Hur was able to eventually walk off under his own power. But Kremer broke his collarbone and suffered a concussion. He was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance.
When play resumed Chance Ross delivered a two-out RBI single to make the score 3-1 in favor of Rockford.
Ryan Zimmerman (4-4) shut down Florence after that. He went eight innings, giving up just the one run on four hits, walking one and striking out seven to earn the win. Weaver pitched well, going six and two thirds innings, giving up only the three runs, two earned, on seven hits, but suffered his fourth straight loss.
Florence put runners at second and third with two outs in the ninth but Rockford closer Gerardo Sanchez got Doug Joyce to ground out to end the game.
Florence heads to Marion, IL to take on the Southern Illinois Miners Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. eastern time. All the action can be heard at http://www.allinbroadcasting.com/Florence.html.
