Aviators Prevail Through Injuries; Win Series over Freedom
July 26, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford Aviators News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, overcame adversity and held on for a 3-1 win over the Florence Freedom.
The Aviators jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Michael Hur posted a RBI single that scored Kyle Dhanani and Dusty Robinson also grounded into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded that scored Ryan Breen. Tanner Witt would also score on an error by the Florence Freedom's left fielder, Zak Blair to make the score 3-0.
There was a very scary moment in the bottom of the third inning when Aviators outfielders Hur and Kremer collided as each was diving to catch a fly ball in right-center field off the bat of Preston Overbey.
Hur lay motionless for several minutes before eventually walking off the field under his own power with concussion-like symptoms. Kremer, who initially popped up after the play was over, left the game in an ambulance with what was reported as an injury to his collar bone.
The Freedom posted their only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as Overbey would eventually come around to score on an RBI single by Chance Ross.
Ryan Zimmerman was dominant on the mound for the Aviators has he pitched eight innings and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out seven batters and walking just one. He would earn the win and improve to 4-4 on the season.
Gerardo Sanchez came in to close the game out for the Aviators in the ninth, picking up his fourteenth save in the process. He pitched one inning and allowed one hit and one walk.
The Aviators are back in action tomorrow night at Aviators Stadium as they open up a three-game series with the Windy City Thunderbolts. Game time is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. and the gates will open at 4:05 p.m.
It will be YMCA Family Day at Aviators Stadium and all kids twelve and under will receive admission for just two dollars. Kids will be able to play catch on the field before the game and run the bases after the game while playing on the extra inflatables during the game.
It will also be a special giveaway night as the first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a 32 ounce stadium cup courtesy of our friends at Johnny Pamcakes.
