Game #58 - Home Game #35 (25-32), (19-15)

Last time out...
The Freedom lost 8-2 on Friday night as Rockford jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and did not look back. Florence was in the game for the first few innings as they trailed 4-2 after two innings. But four unanswered runs from the Aviators, including one in the third and one in the fourth, helped them pull away. The Freedom tallied three straight hits in the bottom of the first inning to begin the frame including a Buddy Sosnoskie RBI single to tie the game at one. However they would only record two hits combined for the remainder of the contest. Six Rockford Aviators players recorded multi-hit games. The highlight of the game for the Freedom was reliever Ed Kohout who pitched two and two thirds innings of scoreless ball, striking out six batters along the way. Five different Aviators recorded RBI in the game and Dusty Robinson hit a home run off reliever Chris Cummins.
For Starters...
2014 Frontier League Mid-Season All-Star Chuck Weaver makes his 11th start of the season tonight. He has suffered three consecutive losses on the hill. In his most recent start on July 22 against the Schaumburg Boomers he gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on nine hits over seven and two thirds innings in a 5-1 loss for the Freedom. Weaver has surrendered four runs in each of his last three starts. Weaver was signed by the Freedom in June 2013 after he finished up his collegiate career at IPFW. He had a solid rookie season, posting a 4-2 record with a 3.70 ERA in 14 appearances, 12 starts. The Ft. Wayne, Ind. native started 13 games as a senior for the Mastadons, posting a 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA. Weaver threw two complete games as a senior and pitched 70.2 innings. He played two years for IPFW after transferring from Vincennes University where he was named to the NJCAA All-Academic team.
Rubber match...
Tonight marks the rubber match of the three-game series between the Freedom and Aviators. Florence is 4-6 in rubber matches and 10-8 overall in series finales this season. If the Freedom win tonight it will be their second straight series win. They haven't won two straight series since June 11-15 against Windy City and Southern Illinois.
Triple your pleasure...
Cole Miles smacked his team-leading fifth triple of the year last night. He is now tied for the Frontier League lead in triples with Tyler Booth of Southern Illinois.
Mr. Clutch...
All-Star Sam Eberle is hitting a team-leading .352 with runners in scoring position this season. However the Freedom are only hitting .227 overall in that situation. That average drops to .214 as a team with runners in scoring position and two outs.
Where's the offense?!
The Freedom's team batting average of .230 is last in the Frontier League. Their 218 runs scored are the fewest in the league.
Excellent Eberle...
All-Star Sam Eberle leads the Freedom in On-Base Percentage at .427. He also leads the team in multiple hit games with 18.
Transaction Wire...
The Freedom released INF Ben Kline, INF Caleb Bryson and RHP Edgar Valle yesterday. They activated Chance Ross from the 7-Day Disabled List. Florence acquired RHP Chris Squires from the Kansas City T-Bones for a player to be named later and they signed INF Preston Overbey.
Tonight's Special Jersey Number...
Chance Ross is wearing #61 tonight. The jersey will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky. The jersey is sponsored by Braden & Associates Law Firm.
