Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Ne. - The Tri-City Storm's offense stayed one step ahead of the Omaha Lancers in a back-and-forth, 6-4 victory Saturday at the Viaero Center.
Linemates Wade Allison, Alex Limoges and Dan Labosky each finished with three points, keeping Tri-City in the lead the whole game. Allison led all scorers with two goals, helping Tri-City tie a season-best six-goal output. Carson Meyer and Nico Sturm each added a goal and an assist.
For the second time in the season series, Tri-City forced Omaha to pull its goalie. Zack Skog allowed four goals in the first two periods. His replacement Kris Oldham allowed two goals in the third to take the loss.
Tri-City's defense responded after giving up three goals in the second period, limiting the Lancers to 27 total shots. With 23 stops and the victory, the Storm's goalie Jake Kielly helped the Storm earn points in its 17th straight conference game (12-0-3-2). The 19-year-old is 10-0-3-0 in his last 13 decisions.
The Storm's three-point weekend places Tri-City five ahead of Omaha for second in the conference.
Coming off a career-best three-assist game against Sioux Falls Friday, Allison's shooting skills came to the forefront on his first two shots against the Lancers. A pair of power-play scores gave the Storm a 2-0 edge less than six minutes into the first. On the first goal at 2:27, Labosky and Joey Matthews took the helpers. Limoges and Labosky helped on the second power-play marker at 6:54.
Tri-City finished 3-for-4 on the power play and killed off Omaha's only man-up chance.
Allison has 20 goals, 34 points and has appeared in all 44 games for Tri-City.
A wild, five-goal second period culminated with a late-period tally by the Storm's Limoges to keep the Storm up by one. Omaha scored the first two goals of the second to tie before Labosky reversed the trend, sniping a left-circle shot over Skog's shoulder, with assists to Alex Limoges and Justin Dixson, at 9:43.
John Wojciechowski tied the game 1:18 later, besting Kielly on the right post to even the game at three.
The tying goal set the stage for Limoges' first goal and third point, taking a centering feed from Allison and sniping a waist-high wrist shot to the back of cage, giving Tri-City a 4-3 edge heading into the final period. Skog was pulled at the start of the third for Oldham.
Carson Meyer and Nico Sturm heated up after second break, combining on both Storm goals. Just 26 seconds into the third, Meyer sniped a right-circle shot on Tri-City's first shot on Oldham, taking a pass from Sturm. Brandon Duhaime got the secondary helper. After Omaha moved within one, Meyer helped out Sturm, allowing the center to deke and backhand a shot at 12:06 on the power play and place Tri-City up by two.
