Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI (February 20th) - Rem Pitlick extended his home goal streak to 11 games, but the Muskegon Lumberjacks fell to the Madison Captiols 5-2.
After 15 minutes of scoreless hockey, the USHL leading scorer Rem Pitlick netted his 29th of the season to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. Matej Paulovic and Graham Lillibridge registered the assists on the goal. However, in the final three minutes of the first period, the Captiols responded with two goals. Madison captain Ryan Lohin scored his second goal in as many games with a wrist shot from the top of the circle. With 16 seconds left in the first period, Cooper Watson gave the Captiols a 2-1 lead after one period of play, when he fired a shot under the glove of Lumberjacks goaltender Devin Cooley.
Madison doubled their lead six minutes into the second period, when Alexandre Payusov wristed the puck into the back of the net, for his third point of the night. The Lumberjacks responded back with a power play goal of their own. After a save made by Captiols goaltender Ryan Edquist, Dante Palecco batted home the rebound for his 9th of the season. Paulovic and Collin Adams registered the assist on the goal, that cut the Muskegon deficit to one. Madison responded at 15:51 in the second period, when Sam McCormick netted his fourth goal of the weekend to give the Captiols at 4-2 lead after forty minutes of play.
Ryan Lohin added his second goal of the game early in the third period, to give the Capitols the 5-2 victory.
Pitlick's first period goal extends his home goal streak to 11 games, the longest of any player in the United States Hockey League.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (17-20-5) will return tomorrow afternoon, when they take on the United States National Team Developmental U17 Program (17-18-5). Puck will drop at 2:00 p.m. with the live radio broadcast on 97.5 Sunny FM.
