Madison Capitols News Release
Muskegon, MI - The Madison Capitols (17-20-4-3) picked up a point in their fifth straight game Friday but left the L.C. Walker Arena on the heels of an agonizing 6-5 overtime loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks (17-19-2-3). The two teams rematch on Saturday evening in Muskegon, with puck drop set for 6:15 p.m. CT.
The Lumberjacks rallied from deficits of 4-1 and 5-3 to force overtime, where Collin Adams potted his second goal of the evening in the first minute of the extra period to secure the victory.
In the losing effort, the Capitols saw the re-emergence of their top line superstars, as Sam McCormick netted his second hat trick in the span of 13 days on the eve of his 19th birthday. Meanwhile, his linemate Ryan Lohin assisted on each of McCormick's goals while adding one of his own for his second four-point game of the month. Marcel Godbout also scored for the Capitols, who are now 2-0-2-1 in the last five games.
McCormick, Lohin, and Godbout each scored in a 1:54 span in the second period to take a 4-1 lead, but the Lumberjacks, behind a four-point night from USHL scoring leader Rem Pitlick, stormed back with five of the game's final six goals to steal the victory away from Madison.
By virtue of his hat-trick night, McCormick vaulted himself up to 12th in the USHL in scoring with 38 points, while his 22 goals rank him tied for fourth among all players.
Following the finale in Muskegon on Saturday, the Capitols take their longest trip, geographically speaking, next Friday and Saturday with a pair of games in Kearney, Neb. against the Tri-City Storm. They will then wind down their weekend with a visit to the Sioux City Musketeers on Sunday, Feb. 28.
The Capitols then return home for a two-game weekend on Friday & Saturday, March 11-12, at the Alliant Energy Center for a pair of 7:05 p.m. puck drops against Sioux Falls and Youngstown respectively.
March 11 marks the Capitols' Cross Check Cancer initiative, as proceeds from ticket package purchases will benefit the UW Carbone Cancer Center, in conjunction with UW Health Sports Medicine, the Capitols' 2015-16 presenting sponsor.
March 12 brings about the return of four-legged friends to the Coliseum on Pucks N' Paws night, presented by Animart. Dogs will be permitted into the Alliant Energy Center on game night, and each pup will receive a doggy goody bag!
