Offense Rolls as 'Wolves Win Two Straight

For the second consecutive night, the SeaWolves brought out the bats as they took down the Binghamton Mets 11-8 in the second game of a four-game series at Jerry Uht Park.
The Mets jumped ahead 5-0 against Erie starter Anthony Shawler. In the first, Raul Reyes singled to start the game and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He scored on a single by Josh Satin for a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Marshall Hubbard led off with a double and scored on a one-out double from Jose Coronado. Shawler then hit Brahiam Maldonado to put two on. With two outs, Satin came through again with a two-run double for a 4-0 lead. Sean Ratliff singled home Satin with two outs for the five-run lead.
Erie responded in the bottom of the second against Binghamton starter Mike Antonini. Rawley Bishop led off and walked. Billy Nowlin and Kody Kaiser each singled loading the bases for Brian Pounds. Pounds put the SeaWolves on the board by connecting on a grand slam to left making it a one-run game at 5-4. The home run for Pounds was his fourth and it was the sixth Erie grand slam of the season.
In the third, the Wolves tied the game on an opposite-field, solo home run from Bishop.
Erie then took the lead in the fourth. Pounds and Jeff Kunkel each singled with one out and both came home to score on a Cale Iorg double down the left field line for a 7-5 advantage.
After building an 8-5 lead, Binghamton was able to score three to the game. In the sixth, Mike Nickeas and Maldanado each connected on solo home runs making it a one run game. In the eighth, with two outs, reliever Matt Hoffman walked the bases loaded and walked in the games tying run.
Erie came right back in the bottom of the seventh, with two outs, Pounds and Kunkel reached base on a fielder's choice and a single. Alden Carrithers laced a liner into left field and on an error by the left fielder Ratliff allowed the go-ahead runs to score for a 10-8 lead. Erie added a run in the eighth when Andy Dirks doubled home Brandon Douglas to make it 11-8.
Zach Simons (3-4) picked up the win tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Lester Oliveros struck out three in the ninth, earning his third save.
The Wolves and Mets meet in the third game of the four-game series on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park...7:05 First Pitch. Righty Brooks Brown (8-7, 4.07 ERA) takes the mound for the Wolves against lefty Robert Carson (0-3, 9.60 ERA).
