Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ- A 14-hit attack was snuffed out on four double plays turned by New Hampshire in a 10-3 loss on Friday night at Waterfront Park. The Thunder stranded 13 men and starting pitcher Hector Noesi did not manage to pitch out of the fourth inning in the loss. Trenton now stands 1 ½ games ahead in the divisional race.
Noesi slipped up and allowed seven runs, including five in the fourth inning, in just 3 1/3 innings of work. New Hampshire jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer to left field by Shawn Bowman.
In the fourth, Noesi allowed the first three batters to reach base. A sacrifice fly by Jonathan Diaz increased the 'Cats lead to 3-0. Two more runs scored before the inning was capped off with a two-run single from Eric Thames to put New Hampshire ahead 7-0. Noesi was removed for Wilkin de la Rosa, who recorded the final two outs in the frame. In his last two starts, Noesi (6-3) has allowed 13 runs in eight innings pitched.
Trenton recorded their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Daniel Brewer led off with a double against RHP Rey Gonzalez (2-2) and advanced to third base after a fly out to left field from Marcos Vechionacci. Brewer was driven in on a groundout by Matt Cusick to cut New Hampshire's lead to 7-1.
The Fisher Cats scored three more runs in the seventh off Josh Schmidt to go up 10-1. The right-hander walked three of the first four batters he faced in the inning. After the Thunder picked up a run in the bottom of the seventh off Gonzalez, RHP Alan Farina came on to pitch the eighth inning for New Hampshire, but loaded the bases and issued a bases-loaded walk to Justin Snyder, cutting New Hampshire's lead to 10-3. Seven of the Thunder batters recorded two hits each and every player in the lineup reached base safely in the loss.
Trenton and New Hampshire will play game three of their four game weekend set on Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Andrew Brackman gets the start for the Thunder, while the Fisher Cats go with RHP B.J. LaMura. For tickets, call (609) 394-3300 or online at www.trentonthunder.com.
