New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(Trenton, NJ)---Eric Thames drove in two runs, part of a five-run fourth inning, and the Fisher Cats beat first-place Trenton 10-3 at Waterfront Park on Friday night. With the win, New Hampshire is back within a game-and-a-half of the Thunder for first place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division.
Thames now has 81 RBI for the season, matching the franchise mark set by John-Ford Griffin in the Fisher Cats 2004 championship season.
Shawn Bowman gave the Fisher Cats an early 2-0 lead in the game. He hit his 18th homer off Trenton starter Hector Noesi (6-3) in the top of the second inning, plating Thames, who had singled. In the process, Thames extended his hit-streak to a season-high ten games.
New Hampshire (63-44) sent ten men to the plate in the top of the fourth inning, chasing Noesi from the game. After loading the bases, Jonathan Diaz delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Adeiny Hechavarria singled to make it 4-0 and Adam Loewen walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-0. Thames followed with a single to make it 7-0.
The other Fisher Cat runs came in the top of the seventh on a bases loaded walk to Brian Jeroloman, a double play grounder and a single by Darin Mastroianni.
Trenton (64-42) picked up its runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings. Matt Cusick's groundout plated Daniel Brewer, who had doubled in the fourth. Austin Krum doubled home Justin Christian in the seventh and Justin Snyder drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth.
Rey Gonzalez (2-2) worked the first seven innings for his second win, allowing two earned runs on eleven hits. He walked one and struck out four. Alan Farina and Clint Everts also worked in relief for the Fisher Cats, each pitching an inning.
The Fisher Cats continue the four-game series in Trenton on Saturday night at 7:05pm. RHP B.J. LaMura (4-3, 4.60) is the scheduled starter for New Hampshire against Thunder RHP Andrew Brackman (2-5, 3.58). Live coverage of the game can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman.
