Altoona Curve News Release

Richmond, Va - In his second start of the season, Curve pitcher Tony Watson would retire the first nine batters that he faced, but the Richmond Flying Squirrels would wind up grabbing six runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings off the left-hander to eventually roll to an 8-4 decision over Altoona on Friday night at The Diamond.

The loss sends the Curve (60-45) to a 10-17 record in the month of July.

The Curve would actually score the game's first run when Josh Harrison's single brought home Jose de los Santos to put Altoona up 1-0 in the top of the third inning.

After three perfect frames from Watson to start the game, the fourth inning saw the Pirates' 9th round selection in the June 2007 draft permit a pair of runs to put the Squirrels (51-55) up 2-1.

Richmond would knock Watson out of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring four runs with two outs to take a 6-1 edge.

The Curve would draw within two against Squirrels starter Mike MacDonald. Nine men came to the plate against the righty which featured highlights of Harrison singling home his second run of the game while Hector Gimenez drove in a pair of runs to make the score 6-4.

Against relieving right-hander Jared Hughes, Richmond would tack on single runs in the bottom of the sixth and the seventh to take a lead of 8-4 and hold it throughout the remainder of the game.

The Altoona Curve and Richmond Flying Squirrels will lock horns in the third game of the series on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. LHP Jeff Locke (1-0, 1.59) will make his fourth Double-A start against Flying Squirrels right-hander David Mixon (10-5, 3.69). Airtime on flagship radio station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates begins at 6:05 p.m.
