Rockford Aviators News Release
JOLIET, IL - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Person, gave Kyle Hassna all the run support he could ask for tonight, allowing him to pick up his first win as a starter over the Joliet Slammers, 8-4.
In the top of the second inning, Kenny Bryant had his first home run since July 8 when he cranked a two-run shot over the right field wall that gave the Aviators an early 2-0 lead.
Two more crossed the plate in the top of the third inning as Michael Hur posted a RBI double that scored Kalaika Kahoohalahala and then was driven in by a sacrifice fly by Tanner Witt as the Aviators jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
Witt also picked up his 100th hit of the season with a two-RBI single in the fifth that allowed the Aviators to increase their lead to 7-1. Witt also set a new career high in RBIs with three.
Kyle Hassna had an excellent pitching performance tonight as he pitched six and a third innings and allowed four runs on nine hits while walking just one batter and striking out five. This was his first win as a starter for the Aviators.
The Slammers didn't go away quietly, however, as they posted a run in four straight innings cutting the Aviators lead all the way down to just four runs, but they were not able to complete the comeback as the Aviators held on for an 8-4 victory.
With the win, the Aviators have clinched their first series victory since taking two of three from the Florence Freedom back on July 24-26.
The Aviators will attempt the sweep tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Silver Cross Field as Ryan Zimmerman will look for his sixth win in his last seven starts for the Aviators against Matt Crim who is just 1-3 this season with a 7.56 ERA.
