Slammers Lose to Rockford 8-4 on Wednesday

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-lost 8-4 to the Rockford Aviators on Wednesday at Silver Cross Field.

Rockford scored twice in the 2nd inning off Joliet starter Ethan Carter on a 2-run homer from Kenny Bryant. They added to that with a RBI double from Michael Hur and a sacrifice fly from Tanner Witt in the 3rd. Ryan Breen singled in a run in the 4th to make it a 5-0 Aviators lead. Joliet got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th. Grant DeBruin picked up a double and he scored on a Russell Moldenhauer single and the score became 5-1. Witt came up with a 2-run single in the 5th to knock Carter out of the game and push their lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the 5th Josh Scheffert singled and Adrian English followed with a double. With two outs Seth Granger singled to right field and Scheffert scored. English tried to score on the play as well but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning at 7-2. It became 8-2 on a RBI grounder from Kalaika Kahoohalahala in the 6th off of reliever John Maloney. The Slammers answered back with a run in the bottom of the 6th on a Matt Weaver RBI double and it was 8-3. It became 8-4 on a RBI double from JD Dorgan in the 7th. The Slammers finished the day with six doubles on the day and reached 10 hits while scoring a single run in four straight innings. Jordan Wellander and David Kubiak finished off the game with a scoreless inning of relief each. Russell Moldenhauer left the game in the 6th inning with a sore ankle and was replaced by Chris Epps, who was taking a rare day off. Epps walked in his first at-bat and has now reached base in 12 of his last 14 games and 19 of his last 23 contests. DeBruin's double in the 4th inning was his league-best 114th hit and he now leads the team with 24 doubles on the season.

In the middle of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $250 to lucky fan, Katy Ciesla, as part of their Amazing August promotion. Each home game in August will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. The payout on Friday, August 1st to a lucky winner was $5000.

Joliet concludes the three-game series vs Rockford with a Thirsty Thursday that will also be Jimmy Buffet night, so break out your Hawaiian shirts and turn Silver Cross Field tropical. Joliet then spends the weekend at Windy City before returning home for a season-ending nine-game home-stand, beginning with a 2-dollar Tuesday on August 26th.
