Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (25-28) pulled off a pivotal series-opening win against the first place Memphis Redbirds (27-27) by a score of 8-5, as the Storm Chasers offense had 14 hits with five players notching multi-hit games. During the final four games of their last roadtrip the Chasers had totaled 11 runs and 20 hits, and the win pulls Omaha to within 1.5 games of the Redbirds for the division lead.
Omaha scored seven of their eight runs in the game in the second and fourth innings combined, with the bottom third of the order of Anthony Seratelli, Brett Hayes and Willy Taveras doing most of the damage with four hits and five runs scored in the two innings. Trailing 1-0 in the second Hayes and Taveras doubled in back-to-back at-bats to drive in the first two runs of the game for Omaha. In the fourth a two-run single by second baseman Christian Colon broke up a 3-3 tie, scoring Hayes and Taveras, to give the Chasers the lead for good.
Omaha starter Nate Adcock earned his first win since April 19, as he shook off early struggles to toss five innings allowing three runs on two Redbirds long balls. It was only the third time this season Adcock has gone at least five innings allowing three runs or less, all three coming at Werner Park, and in those starts he is a perfect 3-0. Adcock has only taken the loss in one of his five starts at home this season, and has nearly matched the four home wins he had in nine starts at Werner Park last season.
While third baseman Xavier Nady's team-high 14-game hitting streak was snapped with a 0-for-4 performance, one of only two Omaha players without a hit in the game, right-fielder Anthony Seratelli extended his team-high on-base streak to 20 games with two hits on the night. Seratelli blasted a solo homer in the seventh, his first homer since May 10, and the utility man has now reached base in 40 of his 41 starts this season.
The season series between the top two teams in the American Conference Northern Division is now even at 2-2, with a doubleheader on Sunday up next to make up the postponement on May 4th. The first game will feature Omaha left-hander Justin Marks (1-3, 5.54) squaring off with Redbirds righty Carlos Martinez (0-0, 0.00), and in the final game of the twin bill the Chasers will send out left-hander Will Smith (4-2, 2.77) against fellow left-hander Nick Additon (3-2, 4.64).
