
Redbirds Lose Slugfest in Omaha 8-5

Papillion, NE - Omaha and Memphis slugged it out Saturday night at Werner Park, but it was the Storm Chasers (25-28) who came through with some timely hitting as they beat the Redbirds (27-27) 8-5 in the series opener.
Memphis outhit Omaha 15-14, but had just three hits in thirteen at-bats with runners in scoring position. They stranded thirteen runners on the night, nine of them in scoring position.
The Storm Chasers cashed in their opportunities, picking up six hits in eleven chances with runners in scoring position.
Christian Colon had two of Omaha's fourteen hits and knocked in three runs. His 2-run single in the fourth inning broke a 3-3 tie as the Chasers scored four runs in the inning. The last two scored on a Max Ramirez one out single.
The bottom third of Omaha's lineup produced six hits and six runs. Anthony Seratelli hit a solo homer in the seventh, his fifth of the season. Irving Falu and Willy Taveras each had three hits.
Jermaine Curtis paced the 'Birds with three hits, including a 2-run homer, his second of the year. Brock Peterson had a pair of doubles, a single and drove in one run to up his average to .309.
Nate Adcock (3-4) battled through five innings to pick up the win. Adron Chambers greeted Adcock in the opening inning by knocking his first pitch out of the ballpark. It was his third of the year. Adcock was charged with three runs on eight hits.
Kelvin Herrera notched his first save with a scoreless ninth, hitting the 100 miles per hour mark several times.
Scot McGregor (1-2) suffered the defeat after being touched for seven runs on twelve hits in just five innings of work.
The win pulls Omaha within 1.5 games of the Redbirds in the battle for the American Northern Division lead.
The teams will play a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. CT at Werner Park. Carlos Martinez (0-0, 0.00) faces Justin Marks (1-3, 5.54) in the opener and Nick Additon (3-2, 4.64) will take to the hill for the 'Birds while Omaha will counter with Will Smith (4-2, 2.77) in the nightcap.
