
Iowa Cubs Get a Bullpen Makeover

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of RH Blake Parker today and placed RH Rafael Dolis on the 15-day disabled list. RH Alex Burnett was designated for assignment to make room for Parker on the 40-man roster. The Iowa Cubs have added RH Michael Bowden and LH Jeff Antigua.
Parker is 0-1 with seven saves and a 2.04 ERA (4 ER/17.2 IP) in 16 relief appearances with Iowa this season. He has held opponents to a .133 batting average (8-for-60), including a .067 mark (2-for-30) against right-handed hitters. Parker has 26 strikeouts in 17.2 innings and has allowed one earned run over his last nine outings (1 ER/8.2 IP). The 27-year-old is Iowa's career saves leader with 41.
Burnett, who was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on Monday, made an appearance for Chicago on Wednesday and was optioned to Iowa the following day. He has not made an appearance for Iowa.
Bowden began the year with Chicago and is 1-2 with a 3.78 ERA in 14 relief appearances spanning 16.2 innings. The right-hander was designated for assignment on May 21 and outrighted to Iowa on May 29. In 23 games with the I-Cubs last season, Bowden went 3-2 with a 2.76 ERA (10 ER/32.2 IP).
Antigua comes to Iowa from Kane County where he is 2-1 with a 2.78 ERA (7 ER/22.2 IP) in 12 relief outings. He is fourth in the Midwest League among relievers in walks allowed per nine innings (1.59).
The Cubs are home to start a four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs at Principal Park tonight at 7:05. RH Guillermo Moscoso (2-2, 4.80) will start for the Cubs against RH A.J. Battisto (1-1, 6.75) for the Zephyrs. The gates will open at 5:35 and the game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
