Tucson Padres News Release

Tucson Padres pitchers struck out 15 batters for the second time in three nights Friday and shut out the Fresno Grizzlies 10-0 at Kino Stadium. The Padres won the series three games to one and are now two games out of first place in the Southern Division.

After three scoreless innings to start the game, the Padres sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom fourth and took a 5-0 lead. Jonathan Galvez brought around the first two runs with a double down the left-field line. Starting pitcher Brandon Kloess then delivered the first hit of his professional career, a two-run single, to put the Padres ahead 4-0. The fifth run came across on Daniel Roberton's second hit of the inning.

Tucson scored five more runs in the fifth with the help of Jesus Merchan's RBI double and Jaff Decker's two-run triple. Sean O'Sullivan, who was pinch-hitting for Kloess, lined a single to center for his ninth RBI of the season. Mike Wilson's two-out infield single scored the final run of the inning.

Kloess earned his second win of the season, compiling seven strikeouts in five innings of work. He allowed only two hits and one walk in the outing. Relievers Colt Hynes, Brad Boxberger and Miles Mikolas had eight strikeouts and scattered two hits in the final four innings of the game. Fresno's Chris Heston was charged with the loss after surrendering five earned runs on seven hits in four innings.
