Offense Erupts as Curve Takes Series from Akron

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve set new season highs in runs and hits, blanking the Akron RubberDucks, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Peoples Natural Gas Field. With a 12-hit offensive attack and another strong pitching performance from Zack Dodson, the Curve took finale of the four-game series.

In its first home series of the season, Altoona (6-4) took three of the four games against Akron (4-6).

Dodson (W, 1-0) worked 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and did not issue a walk or a strikeout in the game. He extended his scoreless streak to 12.0 innings to open the season through two starts and one relief appearance.

The Curve jumped ahead in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Stetson Allie and Edward Salcedo ?before stranding the bases loaded.

Akron starter Ryan Merritt (Loss, 0-1) settled in to retire 13 of the next 14 Curve batters until WIllie Garica led of the sixth with a double and later came in to score on a Salcedo groundout.

The Curve stretched the lead to 6-0 in the seventh inning and plated another in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Stallings.

Garcia had his first three-hit game of the season, finishing the day with an RBI and scoring two runs while picking up his second outfield assist of the season, cutting down Jeremy Lucas at the plate in the fifth inning.

Center fielder Keon Broxton went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to a team-best five games. He has hit safely in nine of the first ten games to open the season.

Reliever Tom Harlan (Hold, 2) pitched two scoreless innings and Collin Balester worked the ninth to cap the Curve's third shutout of the season in the first ten games.

Curve starting pitchers have now posted a 0.33 ERA (2 ER, 54.0 IP) through the first ten games of 2015.

The Curve open a three-game series with the Harrisburg Senators at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Monday night. Right-hander Angel Sanchez (1-0, 0.00), who is tied with Dodson for a team-high 12.0 consecutive scoreless innings to open the season, will start on the mound for Altoona. Righty Joe Ross (0-1, 6.00) will pitch for Harrisburg.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Monday's game is the first Mega Monday of the season, featuring exclusive online ticket specials, specialty food items and it is a Guaranteed Win Night. If the Curve don't win on Mondays, fans can bring their ticket back to another Monday home game for free (based upon availability for equal or lesser value).
