BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham Barons (3-5) bounced back Friday night, getting the best of the Jacksonville Suns (3-5) in a 1-0 game dominated by pitching at Regions Field.

Kevin Vance (W, 1-0) earned the win for the Barons after working hitless sixth and seventh innings with Cody Winiarski (SV, 1) picking up the six out save.

The Suns had their chances early against Barons starter Scott Snodgress, but left the bases loaded twice in the first three innings. Jacksonville would also strand runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings.

Both sides would be held off the scoreboard until Kevan Smith broke the scoreless deadlock with a one-out run-scoring single to right in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Angel Sanchez (L, 0-2) looked much sharper compared to his first start in 2014 and took a tough-luck loss after allowing just one run on six hits in six innings of work. Grant Dayton and Collin Cargill would each work scoreless innings in relief.

The Suns will send the lefty Justin Nicolino (0-1, 1.80) to the mound in Saturday's ballgame, with right-hander Terry Doyle (0-1, 7.20) set to throw for the Barons. First pitch on Saturday from Regions Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Suns fans can listen to Saturday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 7:15 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.
