Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, AL - The Mobile BayBears (4-4) dropped their second straight game at home, 6-1 to the Montgomery Biscuits (5-3), Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Biscuits scored all six runs in the first three innings and limited Mobile to one run on five hits. The loss puts Mobile at .500 for the second time in 2014, a mark the BayBears have either been at or above through the first eight games of the season.
Montgomery entered play on the night only scoring in 26 of their last 28 innings but the Biscuits have put up 13 runs in the last 12 innings against the BayBears. Mobile went down 1-0 in the first inning after RHP Mike Lee (0-2) hit the first batter of the game, Ryan Brett, who scored on an RBI single from Cameron Sietzer. Montgomery struck with three more runs in the second inning when Willie Argo crossed the plate on an RBI ground out by Riccio Torrez and Jeff Malm scored on an RBI triple from Brett. Another run scored with Taylor Motter hit a RBI double that drove in Brett. Montgomery would add the final two runs in the third inning when Sietzer hit a solo homer and Malm's RBI base hit plated Argo.
RHP Jared Mortensen (1-0) limited the BayBears' bats, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning when Jon Griffin doubled to right-center field. Mobile's first and only run came in the seventh inning when Lars Davis delivered a lead-off double and scored on a ground out by Justin Greene.
Mortensen earned his first win of the year, allowing no runs, while giving up two hits, two walks and two strike outs in five innings. Lee suffered is second loss of the season, surrendering six runs on 10 hits, walking two and striking out three over five full innings.
