
Generals Slam Past Braves 8-5 To Take Series Lead

JACKSON, TENN. - The Generals (5-3) have blasted two home runs so far this season, both have been grand slams. The latter of the pair came Friday off the bat of Kevin Rivers, who led the Generals to an 8-5 win in the third game of the team's opening homestand against the Mississippi Braves (3-5).
Rivers (2-4, 4 RBIs) connected on a fifth inning blast that scored Ketel Marte (4-5, R), Nate Melendres (0-4, BB) and Jabari Blash (2-3, 3 Rs, RBI). Jackson's only run prior to Rivers' homer came after Blash scored on a double-play fielder's choice in the fourth.
The Generals added three more runs in the seventh, with the first coming as Blash walked with the bases loaded. John Hicks (1-3, RBI, BB) added two more with an RBI single to centerfield to score Blash and Melendres.
Starter Stephen Landazuri (1-1) earned his first win in his home debut. Landazuri went six innings and allowed just three hits and two runs, while recording eight strikeouts.
The right-hander's one mistake came on a 2-run home run by Cedric Hunter in the sixth, prior to striking out his third hitter of the inning.
Mississippi added two more runs off of relief pitcher Stephen Shackleford (H,1) in the seventh with RBI singles from Gustavo Nunez and later Braeden Schlehuber. Shackleford allowed three hits and two earned runs in his only inning of work earning a hold.
David Colvin finished the game for the Generals after entering in the eighth. Colvin allowed two hits and one run in two full innings of work to secure the Jackson victory.

The fourth game of the Jackson Generals' home opening series is Friday at 6:05 p.m. CT at the Ballpark in Jackson. LHP Cam Hobson (1-0, 1.59 ERA) will face Mississippi right-hander J.R. Graham (0-0, 0.00). The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, jacksongeneralsbaseball.com and TuneIn Radio.
The Generals will host their first fireworks spectacular of the season presented by WBBJ following their game against Mississippi on Saturday, April 12. The event will also include a post-game concert by Boomernation.
