Hershey Bears News Release

The BEARS continued their early winning ways Sunday in Toronto, rallying from three different deficits to win 5-4 Sunday at Ricoh Coliseum. The defending champions are now 4-0-0-0, and atop the East Division standings two weeks into the season.

The Marlies would strike first in this one, with a goal from Jiri Tlusty at the 7:28 mark of the first. Tlusty picked up a rebound off of an Erik Westrum shot and scored his second goal of the season to give the Marlies a 1-0 lead. HERSHEY then found a way to tie the game before intermission when Joey Tenute scored his third of the season. Tenute took a pass from Tomas Fleischmann and waited out Marlies goaltender Mikael Tellqvist before burying his third of the year. The goal game at 19:49 of the first, and Dean Arsene earned his first point of the season on the marker. HERSHEY finished the period outshooting the Marlies 8-1.

Toronto would score twice against Frederic Cassivi to take a 3-1 lead in the second period before the BEARS would again climb out of the hole. Chris Harrington picked up his first goal of the season at 5:57 for the Marlies, and that was followed by Colin Murphy's first of the year at 12:24 of the second. Down 3-1, HERSHEY would strike with lightning-like efficiency. Alexandre Giroux would tap in his second goal of the season at 13:56 before Chris Bourque would pick up a goal from Lawrence Nycholat and Jonas Johansson at 14:22. Despite being outshot in the period 16-10, the BEARS would go to the third period tied at 3-3.

In the third period, the Marlies would take the lead again when Brett Englehardt found the back of the net to give Toronto a 4-3 lead. With the Marlies up by one, the BEARS would strike on the power play at 6:24 of the third to tie the game. Louis Robitaille picked up his second goal of the weekend to tie the game at 4-4. Nycholat's game-winner in overtime would cinch the victory, and HERSHEY'S best start to a season since 1982.

Notes: HERSHEY allowed the game's first goal for the fourth consecutive game to start the season. Due to a website failure Saturday night in Syracuse with the league's official stat-keeping server, many statistics from HERSHEY'S game sheet with the Crunch were listed incorrectly. The changes should be made early this week once the page is reconciled. One change to be made: Eric Fehr was credited with HERSHEY'S third goal Saturday night instead of Matt Hendricks. The BEARS last started a season 4-0-0-0 in 1982, when HERSHEY defeated Rochester, Baltimore and New Haven at home before downing Sherbrooke on the road. The game Sunday in Toronto marked the only time this season that HERSHEY will play at Ricoh Coliseum, however Bruce Boudreau and Bob Woods will return to Toronto to coach in the 2007 RBK Hockey AHL All-Star Classic January 28-29. The Marlies will be at GIANT Center December 16. Center Malcolm MacMillan was recalled Sunday from Reading (ECHL) with Dave Steckel out due to injury. The game was MacMillan's American Hockey League debut. Maxime Daigneault, who left Saturday's game during the third period in Syracuse due to injury, backed up Cassivi Sunday.
