Nuts Take Flight in 12-10 Win

Lancaster, CA. - By launching a season-high four home runs, the Modesto Nuts avoided a four-game series sweep with a 12-10 win over the Lancaster JetHawks Sunday night.

After the JetHawks (28-15; 63-50) scored first, the Nuts (18-26; 44-70) came storming back with ten runs against JetHawks starter Brock Dykxhorn (L, 7-4). He went five innings, surrendered eleven hits and walked one while striking out three.

Dom Nunez and Forrest Wall each smashed two-run homers in the second. In the fourth, the Nuts added another four runs on a Troy Stein solo home run. He added a RBI triple in the fifth. Wall whacked a RBI triple later in the fourth before scoring on Josh Fuentes' two-run homer.

The JetHawks made it interesting first with a six-run sixth capped by a Yulieski Gurriel grand slam.

Max White responded with a two-run single in the seventh that ended up being the difference in the game. Jason Martin mashed a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh. Osvaldo Duarte made it a two-run game with a solo shot in the eighth, but the Nuts avoided further damage and Luis Niebla (S, 9/9) shut the door with a perfect ninth.

Helmis Rodriguez (W, 3-8) worked five innings and gave up just three hits and one run while walking two and striking out six.
