Blaze Rebound to Avoid Sweep

August 7, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

Eddie Campbell was good and the offense provided just enough support to make sure the Blaze were not swept, as they beat the Storm 5-1 on Sunday.

Campbell picked up his 11th win of the season by battling for five innings, striking out four and walking four. The southpaw only surrendered one run as he left with a 3-1 lead after 89 pitches.

Jay Baum's towering shot to left field was just inches short of clearing the wall, but it was good enough to bring home the first runs of the game.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Elier Sanchez could not escape trouble in the third inning, as Baum drove a pitch off of the left field was to spring the Blaze loose with a 3-0 lead.

The win is a boost for Bakersfield after the club dropped five straight and 15 of 20. The victory is the 61st of the year and it matches their win total for all of 2015.

Joe DeCarlo delivered again by going 2-4 and Aaron Barbosa finished the night batting 3-4 with a run scored as Bakersfield improves to 24-20 in the second half of the season.

The Blaze get a rare day off before they commute to Visalia for a 3-game series. It will be the last regular season encounter between the two North Division foes with the Rawhide having already secured a spot in postseason play.
