Big Fifth Hands Nuts Third Straight Loss

Lancaster, CA. - A five-run fifth doomed the Modesto Nuts in their 11-5 loss against the Lancaster JetHawks on Saturday night at The Hangar.

In the fifth, the Nuts (17-26; 43-70) used three pitchers who threw 55 pitches facing ten hitters, walking three, hitting two and surrendered two hits.

Parker French (L, 6-9) was tagged for five runs in the first four innings of his start for the Nuts. He issued a walk and a single to start the big fifth. He was pulled after that having gone four-plus innings and eventually being charged with seven runs, five earned.

Yoely Bello replaced him and did not record an out. He hit two batters and walked two leading to three runs. Logan Cozart followed out of the 'pen and gave up a sac fly and RBI single.

Meanwhile, Jose Hernandez (W, 1-2) struck out 12 over 6.2 innings allowing just three runs to the Nuts' offense on five hits with two walks.

Luis Jean went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a RBI. Wes Rogers, Shane Hoelscher and Robbie Perkins each whacked RBI doubles in the loss.
