Moyer's Blast Vaults Sixers over Visalia

August 7, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Visalia, CA- Hutton Moyer's two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning vaulted the Inland

Empire 66ers to a 7-5 victory over the Visalia Rawhide at Recreation Park on Saturday. The

homer tipped a see-saw game in the Sixers favor after the Rawhide had trailed in the game 3-1

and 5-4 but fought back each time.

The game saw the two teams combine for 20 hits (ten apiece) and ten pitchers (seven for the

Rawhide). Rawhide starter Joel Payamps lasted just 1.2 innings before getting lifted for a

parade of bullpen arms that held the Sixers down and allowed the Rawhide (66-47, 20-23) scrap

their way to an eventual 4-3 lead in the sixth when Austin Byler took Inland Empire (39-74, 16- 27) starter Alex Klonowski deep for his second homer of the season and third hit of the night.

Inland Empire answered in the seventh when Michael Hermosillo legged out an infield single

and was balked to second by Rawhide southpaw Gabriel Moya. He moved third on David

Fletcher's single. Moya then let loose a wild pitch that scored Hermosillo with the tying run.

Fletcher, who moved to second on the play, then moved to third on a fly-out and came home

on Jared Foster's sac fly giving IE a 5-4 lead.

The lead was short-lived as Sixers' reliever Eric Alonzo walked the leadoff batter in the seventh

Robelys Reyes. The contest was tied 5-5 when Colin Bray lined a triple scoring Reyes. Three of

the five runs Visalia scored in the game were put on base as leadoff walks. Alonzo (1-1) tossed a

scoreless eighth to push a tie game into the ninth.

In the top of the ninth Hermosillo reached on an error and went to second on Fletcher's sac

bunt. Moyer then blasted off on a Cameron Gann (1-2) offering for his tenth dinger of the

season and a 7-5 lead. Winston Lavendier pitched a perfect ninth with two Ks to earn his first

Cal League save for the Sixers. Jeff Boehm, Foster and Fletcher each had two hit nights for the

66ers.

The series concludes Sunday at 6:00 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
