Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA, CA- Inland Empire's (39-74, 16-27) Hutton Moyer launched a two run home run in the top of the ninth inning, breaking a 5-5 tie and giving the 66ers a 7-5 win over Visalia (66-47, 20-23) on Saturday night at Rawhide Ballpark.
RHP Cameron Gann (1-2, 4.05), the seventh pitcher of the night for Visalia, gave up the home run to 2B Hutton Moyer in the ninth after CF Michael Hermosillo reached on an error to begin the inning.
The ballgame was a back and forth affair all night. RHP Joel Payamps made the start for the Rawhide and didn't get out of the second inning.
The Rawhide offense staked Payamps to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when CF Colin Bray walked and came home on DH Austin Byler's RBI single.
In the top of the second LF Jared Foster singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later C Taylor Ward walked and 1B Jeff Boehm doubled them both home to claim the lead for the first time at 2-1 66ers. SS Roberto Baldoquin walked and leadoff man Hermosillo walked to load the bases. That was the end of the night for Payamps as he was lifted RHP Matt Pobereyko, who was making his California League debut. DH David Fletcher greeted Pobereyko with a single that cashed in Boehm for a 3-1 lead.
Payamps final line was 1.2 innings pitched, three runs (earned) on two hits, three walks and recorded three strikeouts.
Pobereyko, in his debut, pitched 2.1 innings scoreless and gave up one hit, two walks and he struck out five.
The score remained 3-1 Inland Empire until the bottom of the fifth. RHP Alex Klonowski had cruised through the first four innings. C Michael Perez walked in the fifth, followed by SS Robeleys Reyes reaching on an infield single. Three batters later with two outs, RF Victor Reyes slapped a two-run triple down the right field line that tied the ballgame at 3-3.
Byler, who had a three hit night, homered in the bottom of the sixth against Klonowski to give the Rawhide a 4-3 lead.
LHP Gabriel Moya came in for the seventh and gave up back-to-back singles to begin the inning and put runners on first and third. A wild pitch by Moya allowed Hermosillo to score and once again tie the game at 4-4. The wild pitch moved Fletcher up to second base and back-to-back fly outs, including a sacrifice fly by Foster, gave Inland Empire a 5-4 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh and against RHP Eric Alonzo (1-1, 3.58), Robelys Reyes walked. Two batters later, Bray extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI triple to tie the game at 5-5.
The tie was broken by the home run heroics of Moyer. LHP Andrew Chafin continued his MLB rehab stint with Visalia and threw another scoreless inning in the game.
The series continues tomorrow night from Rawhide Ballpark with the finale starting at 6:00 p.m. RHP Markus Solbach (1-1, 6.04) will make the start for Visalia against RHP Justin Anderson (6-10, 6.20) for Inland Empire.
