Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA, CA - Austin Byler broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single to give the Visalia Rawhide (67-47, 21-23) a 2-1 win over the Inland Empire 66ers (39-47, 17-28) on Sunday night at Rawhide Ballpark.

Visalia strung together three straight singles with one out against RHP Adam Hofacket (1-1, 5.91) in the eighth inning. The third single, DH Austin Byler's third hit of the night, brought home RF Victor Reyes for a 2-1 lead.

RHP Nick Baker (SV: 1) pitched a scoreless ninth inning, facing four batters, to make the one run advantage stand up and earn his first save of the season.

RHP Markus Solbach began the game by retiring the first 10 Inland Empire hitters he faced after CF Colin Bray hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first against 66ers RHP Justin Anderson to stake the Rawhide to an early 1-0 lead. The hit extended Bray's hitting streak to a season high 14 games and it was his fifth home run of the year.

It wasn't until the sixth inning that Inland Empire finally broke through against Solbach. RF Josh Delphi reached on an error to begin the frame. LF Michael Hermosillo singled Delphi to second base and after a sacrifice bunt moved up both runners the Rawhide SS Hutton Moyer was intentionally walked to load the bases. CF Jared Foster hit a sacrifice fly to score Delphi to tie the game at 1-1.

Solbach finished with seven innings pitched for Visalia and only allowed three hits and one unearned run on a walk and he struck out seven but didn't factor into the decision.

Anderson logged seven innings for Inland Empire and he allowed seven hits and one run (earned) on a walk and he struck out four.

RHP Jency Solis (2-1, 5.30) earned the win for his one scoreless inning of relief.

Hofacket took the loss for his one inning of work. He was responsible for three hits and a run allowed and he picked up one strikeout.

Tomorrow is a league wide off day and starting Tuesday Bakersfield comes to town for a three game series that runs through Thursday. On the mound for Visalia in the series opener on Tuesday night will be RHP Justin Donatella (3-1, 2.83) for Visalia. Bakersfield was still to be announced for the series opening starting pitcher. Tuesday is a Two-Fer-Tuesday so head to your local Chevron or Texaco Station and pick up a 2-for-1 voucher.
