Modesto Nuts News Release

Stockton, C.A. - Another late lead slipped through the Modesto Nuts bullpen in a 3-2 loss to the Stockton Ports at Banner Island Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

Despite a great start from Sam Howard the Nuts (8-15) dropped their seventh straight game.

Wes Rogers cracked a two-out, go-ahead, RBI double in the eighth off of Ports (11-12) reliever Matt Stalcup (W, 1-0). In the bottom of the eight, the Ports responded with a two-run shot by Tyler Marincov to give the Ports the lead and the three-game series sweep of the Nuts.

Sam Howard worked 6.1 innings, the longest start by a member of the Nuts rotation this year. The southpaw did not allow a hit until the fourth. He struck out two, walked three and surrendered just one run.

Helmis Rodriguez (L, 1-2) followed out of the bullpen and allowed the go-ahead shot.

Lou Trivino (S, 1-2) sent the Nuts down in order in the ninth to close out the game.

Heath Fillmyer started for the Ports and allowed just one run to the Nuts offense when he balked home Emerson Jimenez. The righty starter did not allowed a hit until the fifth.

The Nuts return home on Monday night to start a four-game set against the Lake Elsinore Storm. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
