Giants Continue Road Trip In Stockton The San Jose Giants continue their road trip Monday evening with the opener of a four-game series against the Stockton Ports at Banner Island Ballpark. Mark Reyes is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants in the series opener. Reyes faced the Ports in his most recent start on April 26 at Municipal Stadium and picked-up the win after tossing a career-high tying seven innings with two runs allowed.
Swept In Visalia The Giants were swept in a three-game series by the Visalia Rawhide to open their road trip. San Jose suffered losses of 7-5 on Friday, 3-1 on Saturday and 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Giants were unable to hold leads in all three games. San Jose is 2-18 in their last 20 regular season games at Recreation Park dating back to June of 2014.
Road Warriors Last Friday began a stretch for the Giants playing 24 out of 29 games on the road. San Jose has lost their last four road games overall and are 3-7 away from Municipal Stadium this season. Later this month, the Giants will embark on a 14-game road trip (May 15-28). San Jose has only eight home games in May.
Three Straight Losses The Giants enter Monday's contest on a season-high three-game losing streak. The three-game slide immediately followed a season-high four-game winning streak.
Shaw's Hitting Streak At Eight Games First baseman Chris Shaw brings an eight-game hitting streak into Monday's series opener. During the streak, Shaw is batting at a .484 clip (15-for-31) with five doubles, three home runs and eight RBI's. Shaw is currently fifth in the California League with a .359 batting average. Earlier this season, Shaw hit safely in nine straight games (April 12-21) - the longest hit streak by a Giants player this year. Shaw's nine doubles this season are tied for the league lead.
Home Vs. Road The Giants are batting just .232 as a team and averaging 3.5 runs per game on the road this season. By contrast, San Jose is hitting at a .295 clip at home while averaging 6.0 runs per contest. On the mound, the Giants have fared considerably better at home (3.65 ERA) compared to on the road (5.10 ERA).
League Leader Shortstop C.J Hinojosa is currently leading the California League with a .373 batting average. Hinojosa is also tops in the league with a .460 on-base percentage. Over his last seven games, Hinojosa is 13-for-27 (.481). He's also homered twice in his last four games. Hinojosa has hit safely in 18 out of his 20 games played this season.
April Review The Giants finished April with a 10-10 record. San Jose hasn't finished with an above .500 record in April since the 2013 season. Last year, the Giants were a league-worst 7-14 in April after posting an 11-16 record during the opening month in 2014.
San Francisco Affiliation This year is San Jose's 29th season as an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants - the longest current partnership of any team in the California League. Since their inception in 1988, the San Jose Giants have won six league championships (1998, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010), 11 North Division titles and qualified for the playoffs 21 times (in 28 seasons). The Giants enter this year having posted a league-record 12 consecutive winning seasons (2004-2015).
Top Prospects Seven players on San Jose's roster are among the top 30 prospects in the San Francisco organization according to Baseball America: infielder Chris Shaw (#5), pitcher Sam Coonrod (#6), catcher Aramis Garcia (#7), pitcher Andrew Suarez (#12), pitcher Jordan Johnson (#15), outfielder Ronnie Jebavy (#21) and outfielder Steven Duggar (#25).
Opponent Notes: Stockton Ports The Stockton Ports, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, enter Monday's contest riding a three-game winning streak. Stockton is third in the league in batting average (.268), third in runs scored (5.2) and sixth in ERA (4.25). The Ports are 5-6 at home this season. In their only previous meeting this year, San Jose swept a three-game series from Stockton at Municipal Stadium (April 26-28). Stockton's James Harris is fourth in the league in batting average (.362) while Tyler Marincov is third in home runs (7) and first in RBI's (24).
