Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Nick Tanielu started the JetHawks comeback attempt with a two-run single in the eighth, but the Lake Elsinore Storm held on for a 3-2 rubber game victory on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond.

Reliever Brad Wieck had walked Bobby Boyd and Drew Ferguson to set up Tanielu's hit. Jose Torres relieved Wieck and finished off the eighth before pitching the ninth and picking up his first save. Jamie Ritchie led off the ninth with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. Ramon Laureano pinch-hit for Luis Reynoso with two outs and flied out to right field to end the game.

Scott Weathersby (0-3) gave up all three Storm runs in the first inning. Franchy Cordero singled to start the inning and stole second base before coming home on a Javier Guerra double. Josh VanMeter followed with a run-scoring double later in the inning and scored on a Franmil Reyes hit.

Weathersby would last 4.2 innings and allow six hits. Chris Huffman (3-1) pitched six scoreless innings for Lake Elsinore to pick up the win.

The JetHawks (8-13) ended up dropping two of three in the series after one-hitting Lake Elsinore (11-13) in the opener.

Lancaster heads to San Bernardino on Monday to begin a four-game series with the Inland Empire 66ers. RHP Elieser Hernandez (0-2) will start against Tyler Carpenter (2-0). First pitch from San Manuel Stadium is 7:05 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
