Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - The Lake Elsinore Storm used a late rally against the JetHawks bullpen to come from behind and win, 3-2, on Saturday night at The Diamond.
With the JetHawks (8-12) leading 2-0 in the sixth, Luis Tejada slugged a two-run homer to tie the game against reliever Riley Ferrell (0-1). Ferrell had relieved starter Brock Dykxhoorn who last 5.2 innings.
Dykxhoorn allowed just one run on five hits on the night. He allowed a one-out single to Javier Guerra in the sixth and was removed after retiring the next batter. Ferrell allowed the home run to the first batter he faced.
The Storm (10-13) struck again in the seventh against Ferrell. Josh VanMeter singled to leadoff the inning and moved to third base on a River Stevens single. Franchy Cordero hit a groundball to second base to score the go-ahead run.
Two of the Storm's three runs were charged to Ferrell, marking the first earned runs allowed by the right-hander this season.
T.J. Weird (1-1) earned the win in relief and Colby Blueberg pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his third save. The two relievers combined to retire the final seven Lancaster hitters of the night.
The JetHawks took a lead in the third inning against Lake Elsinore starter Thomas Dorminy. Luis Reynoso doubled to leadoff the inning and advanced to third on an error by third baseman VanMeter. He would eventually steal home during a rundown between first and second base.
Lancaster added another run in the fifth. Reynoso led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Jason Martin single to right field.
Dorminy allowed two runs (one earned) over six innings.
The Storm comeback set up a rubber game in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond. The JetHawks will send Scott Weathersby (0-2) to the mound against Chris Huffman (2-1). First pitch is 1 p.m.
