Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

A Late Shift In Momentum

For the second straight night, the Aberdeen IronBirds fell to the Tri-City ValleyCats in another close game. Things got started early for the ValleyCats as they would put up a run in the bottom of the first inning. With Steve Johnson pitching in a bases loaded jam, ValleyCats Ricky Gingras would come to the plate. Gringas reached on a walk which allowed ValleyCats center fielder Bobby Boyd to score.

The IronBirds would respond quickly with two runs of their own in the top of the third inning to make it a 2-1 game. Jamill Moquete and Jay Gonzalez would reach base on walks as Austin Anderson stepped up to the plate. Anderson would deliver a two out, two RBI double to the right center field gap allowing both runners to score.

The ValleyCats would be down 3-1 headed into the eighth inning. Tri-City would put up five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 lead late. ValleyCats Adam Nelubowich and Derek Fisher would reach base as IronBirds first baseman Hector Veloz would be charged with back to back errors. Nick Tanielu and Ricky Gingras would deliver back to back singles and Mott Hyde would walk. All five ValleyCat players would come around to score in the inning.

Steve Johnson

RHP Steve Johnson made his third start with the Aberdeen IronBirds in a minor league rehab assignment. Johnson would struggle early as he allowed four walks in the first inning. He would find his groove in the second and third inning where he didn't allow a ValleyCat hitter to reach base. Johnson would throw three complete innings giving up one run, four walks, no hits and striking out three.

Jamill Moquete

IronBirds starting left fielder Jamill Moquete had himself an evening as he went 3-3 with a walk. Moquete would come around to score three times and provide three hits as the 9 hitter.

On The Mound Tonight

RHP Tanner Chleborad will face off against RHP Troy Scribner in the final game of a three game set.
