
Scrappers Defeat the Tigers

Niles, OH "" The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (12-22) defeated the Connecticut Tigers (16-18) by a score of 9-2 at Eastwood Field Friday night. Scrappers LHP Sean Brady (2-1) picked up his second win of the season as he pitched six scoreless innings while giving up three hits and striking out five batters.
The Scrappers offense took a page out of the Tigers book with a six run fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. On Thursday night the Tigers used a six run seventh inning to take a 9-5 lead. 1B Leo Castillo (3-5) put together a three-hit performance along with four RBI's in the game. Castillo hit a bases clearing double in the fourth as it was a part of the six run fourth inning. Castillo fell a homerun shy of the cycle.
The Tigers offense just couldn't find their groove in the 9-2 defeat as they lost two out of three again the Scrappers. The Tigers were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base DH Ross Kivett (1-4) and RF Ben Verlander (0-3) each had RBI's for the Tigers.
The Tigers and Batavia Muckdogs start a three-game series tomorrow night. Tigers RHP Spencer Turnbull (0-1, 6.75) is slated to face Muckdogs LHP Ben Holmes (0-1, 6.75). The pre-game show begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and cttigers.com.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 5th season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale!
