IronBirds lose to Tri-City

Troy, NY- The Aberdeen IronBirds were swept by the Tri-City ValleyCats, as the hosts took game three by a score of 7-3.

The IronBirds got off to a great start in the first inning. Federico Castagnini, making his second ever start as an outfielder, reached on an error with one out, and would stand on second base. Alex Murphy broke out of an 0-13 slump with an RBI single back up the middle, scoring Castagnini, and giving Aberdeen a 1-0 lead.

The ValleyCats would not wait long to respond. Tri-City scored two runs on three singles off of Aberdeen starter Tanner Chleborad, and they took a 2-1 lead to the second inning.

Tri-City would increase their lead in the third inning, when they sent eight batters to the plate, collecting two hits and taking advantage of two walks and an Aberdeen error. The ValleyCats took a 4-1 lead to the fourth.

The ValleyCats would get another pair of runs in the fifth inning off of a Terrell Joyce two run home run to left, and led 6-1.

Aberdeen would get closer in the seventh. Tanner Murphy led off with a double that hit off the top of the wall in left field. He advanced to third on a Jamill Moquete groundout, and scored on a Justin Viele RBI groundout, making it 6-2 Tri-City. Steve Wilkerson followed with a single, and he advanced to second on a wild pitch. He scored on Oswill Lartiguez's single, and made it 6-3 Tri-City.

The ValleyCats scored an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh, and they took the four run win by a score of 7-3.

Tanner Chleborad took the loss for the IronBirds. He went 2.2 innings, allowing five hits, four runs (two earned), and one walk, striking out one.

Aberdeen begins a three game series in Niles, Ohio tomorrow against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, short season affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
