Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Tri-City Trouble
For the third night in a row, the Aberdeen IronBirds fell to the Tri-City ValleyCats, getting swept in the three game series. The final last night was 7-3. The IronBirds would get on the board early as Federico Castagnini would come around to score on an Alex Murphy single up the middle. Murphy broke out of an 0-13 slump with that hit and picked up his 12th RBI of the season. Unfortunately for Aberdeen, Tri-City would jump ahead for good in the bottom of the first. The ValleyCats collected three singles off of IronBirds' starter Tanner Chleborad and scored twice, taking a 2-1 lead. The Tri-City lead would swell to 6-1 before the IronBirds scored twice in the top of the seventh, but Tri-City would get a run in the bottom of the seventh and go on to win, 7-3.
Wilkerson, Murphy, Lartiguez Highlight Offensive Effort
The IronBirds' offense was led by Steve Wilkerson, Tanner Murphy, and Oswill Lartiguez. Wilkerson had his third two-hit ballgame of the season, including a single and a run scored in the seventh inning. He also singled with one out in the ninth. Murphy led off the seventh inning with a double and then scored on a Justin Viele RBI groundout. Lartiguez came into the game in the bottom of the third and was 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI single, helping raise his average to .301.
0-For-Tri-City
Going back to last season, the IronBirds are winless in their last six games against the Tri-City ValleyCats. The streak began on August 4th, 2013, when the ValleyCats won the series finale at Ripken Stadium last year, and continued when the ValleyCats swept the IronBirds in last year's New York-Penn League Semi-Finals. The IronBirds will have an opportunity to end the streak when Tri-City visits Ripken Stadium from July 27th-29th.
Go Left...I Mean West
After last night's series finale in Troy, New York, the IronBirds traveled to Niles, Ohio for tonight's contest with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. It was their longest travel stretch of the season, and is the furthest west they will travel in the 2014 season.
On The Mound Tonight...
LHP Bennett Parry gets the start for the IronBirds tonight. He is 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA in four previous appearances.
