FORT MILL, S.C. - April 23, 2007 - The last time Charlotte and Toledo met was in game four of International League Playoffs in which the Mud Hens won 5-2. Not much has changed since then as Toledo beat the Knights Monday night 8-1.
The Mud Hens had 11 hits, but cranked out 2 home runs-including a grand slam by David Espinosa in the 8th inning to make it 7-1. Timo Perez added an insurance home run in the 9th.
Knights catcher Ryan Smith scored the lone run for Charlotte when hit a solo shot, his first of the season, in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Charlie Haeger (0-3, 6.46 ERA) took the loss for the Knights. Haeger gave up 7 hits, 3 earned runs and walked 6 in 7 innings. Toledo pitcher Dennis Tankersley (3-1, 3.18 ERA) struck out 5 Charlotte batters en route to his third win of the season.
The Knights and Mud Hens continue their three-game series on Tuesday. Charlotte RHP Lance Broadway (0-1, 3.57 ERA) will take the mound for the Knights, while RHP Yorman Bazardo (1-1, 6.75 ERA) gets the start for the Mud Hens game time is 11:05 a.m.
