Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY - The Bats were able to overcome a shaky start and break a season-long four game losing streak Monday night at Louisville Slugger Field. Mark Bellhorn laced a double to left field scoring first baseman Joey Votto in the bottom of the fifth to put the Bats ahead for good.

Phil Dumatrait shook off two early errors by the Bats and put together another great effort, giving up no earned runs in six innings while improving to (4-0) with a 0.38 ERA. Dumatrait has surrendered only one earned run all season in 23.2 innings of work. Garrett Olson (0-2, 6.63) suffered the loss for Norfolk, giving up five earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

Terry Tiffee went 3-for-4 for the Tides, capping off an 8-for-16 series against the Bats. Norfolk managed only two other hits on a stellar night for Louisville pitching.

Aaron Herr went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including two extra-base hits. His triple in the fifth scoring Jeff Keppinger was part of a four-hit, three-run inning for the Bats. Keppinger also went 2-for-4 in the game, providing the Bats some much-needed offense and helping them improve their record to (8-9).

Early on it looked as if the Bats were in for a long night - Adam Stern doubled and stole third base for the Tides, and then Louisville committed back to back errors on routine plays allowing Stern to score. But Dumatrait retired Jon Knott on a fly out and induced Mike Cervenak into an inning ending double play.

The Bats play their fifth game in a six-game homestand tomorrow night against the Richmond Braves. Louisville RHP Tom Shearn (0-1, 2.81) is expected to take on Richmond's RHP Jonathan Johnson (0-0, 3.72). Tomorrow's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and all fans can purchase $1 hot dogs and $1 sodas.
