Jim Viliquette
What time period is your affiliation with Cooper Stadium?
This is my 14th year.
What is your fondest memory of Cooper Stadium?
Some of the players that have come through here, meeting a lot of them, talking to them. Darryl Strawberry, Jason Giambi, Mike Mussina.
What is your favorite physical aspect of Cooper Stadium?
I like the stadium, I like it a lot. It has great access off the freeway.
Describe something about Cooper Stadium you think other people should know about the ballpark.
It's got great parking facilities. Ticket prices are great, general admission, box seats. People should know that. It is great for a minor league affiliate.
If you could take one thing from Cooper Stadium to the new Huntington Park, what would it be?
I would like to take the grounds crew, because I think they do one heck of a job. The grounds crew is very, very important and I think they should go downtown.
Please describe a Clippers game at Cooper Stadium through your eyes. Tell us what you see, what you hear and what you think.
The fans get into it. A lot of fans come to the games and they always say I love baseball. I don't care who it is, the Yankees, the Nationals. You really don't have a bad seat in the house. You can view the game no matter where you sit.
What do you believe is unique about a Clippers baseball game at Cooper Stadium that differentiates it from other sporting events or venues?
It's baseball. Baseball is an American pastime. It's been here for years and years. You can drive to Cincinnati or Cleveland and see a game, but you have to pay higher prices.
If you could take one part of Cooper Stadium for yourself, what would it be? Why?
Probably the main gate, I think the main gate is nice with the paver bricks with people's names on it. I think it should go to the new stadium and be put out there with the names on them. Some of those people have been coming here for years and years.
What are most excited about in regard to the new Huntington Park?
I think the people are going to be really excited about it. Access to eating and getting in and out of the stadium will be easier. I think the fans are going to flock in and there are a lot of things going on downtown.
"I've enjoyed being here and met a lot of good friends here. "
